Helena Murphy is Head of Development at Hartswood Films, the independent production company behind Sherlock, Dracula and Coupling. She joined Hartswood in 2016, and in 2019 she was named one of Broadcast’s Hot Shots, when Hartswood chief executive Sue Vertue called her “Hartswood Films’ secret weapon” and said her “assessment of projects and scripts has become the gold standard.”

Before Hartswood, Helena was a development producer for London Sketchfest, a production assistant at BBC Edinburgh Festivals, a script researcher on Holby City and a script executive at Sony Pictures Television. She spoke on Panel 1 at State of the Story London 2026 at the BFI Southbank.
